Mississippi Company Selected to Install Cottages
Mississippi Emergency Management Agency Director Mike Womack announced today that T.L. Wallace Construction, Inc. of Columbia is awarded the hauling and installation contract through the Mississippi Alternative Housing Program.
As part of the contract, the company will be responsible for transportation of the cottages from central staging areas to the locations where the units will be placed. The company will also be responsible for placing the units on foundations and providing strapping to meet wind requirements.
T.L. Wallace Construction, Inc. was selected through a competitive bidding process where five other companies also submitted proposals. Under terms of the contract, the cost of hauling and installation will be about $9,000 per cottage.
An estimated 3,000 to 5,000 total units will be built during the duration of the program, which is funded by a $281 million federal grant. The goals of the program are to develop and evaluate safer and more comfortable alternatives to current disaster housing units for future disasters. MEMA is administering the 24-month long program.
